Food waste is a huge problem throughout the world, with approximately 45 percent of food in both developed and developing countries going to waste.

Locally…

In West Sussex, the amount of general household waste consisting of simply tossed away leftovers is an astonishing 40 percent. Despite this, it has been found that about 70% of this could have been easily avoided with a few simple steps.

To fight food poverty and reduce waste in West Sussex, initiatives have been put into place by its Waste Prevention Team. Working with local partnerships, our county is hoping to encourage residents to share their extra food supplies.
